The Story
Most stories end with the protagonist living happily ever after. Most real people's stories begin this way and end with tragedy, bitterness and hate. I have little thought of either. Both are dreams we dreamers love, but know in our hearts are not true. They do make for great drama. The stories we live include elements of both; hate and love intertwine in the tapestry of our lives and if we understand ourselves we "ride it" until the bell.
This our story. We never ask more than we can give although we pray. Our contradictions make us what we are and we are fools and scholars. Time plays with us and the traps are laid with care and precision. We avoid them at our peril because we have to proceed. Damn your lies and to the perdition with your logic. The many of goodness understand. There will be a balancing some day.
I miss all of my ancestors. They were real to me and now they are just fleeting thoughts and alive only in my head at night. I miss them all badly and goodly. There is one outstanding tribute I can hold to all (most; some were assholes) of them. LOVE!
I would die for them; without condition.
I cry at every closing. Libraries are a link to something we need to know.

The Scratching of Heads
I am happy.
Happiness is relative.
Economic fuck shit is still here.
Don't harbor your joy as complacency.
The meat has been fed to the masses and they will not allow anyone to be less miserable than themselves.
Blowback works in mysterious ways.
I await the inevitable.
as always...
Please be good to each other.
Remember what happens to good people.

Symbols
I want to begin by saying that every chicken you fuck comes home to roost as a nightmare. The nightmares are different depending how you fucked the chicken, but the nightmares are real and they have teeth.
If you are a misanthrope than you have no bother with poultry. You have your agenda and fuck the rest of us. I have a beef with people I believe still have souls. They might be misbegotten ignorant souls, but they are souls. They generally wave funny flags (american or faux-confederate) and they are sincere. They believe something is wrong and they will listen to any idiot who tells them that they are right and they must be afraid.
I know these people well because they are just like the same people I grew up with who have said we should just get along because rocking the boat will get you NOWHERE. I have rocked what little I could of every boat I have been honored to serve on and The NOWHERE people were right. Keep your head down, pay your taxes, do your job and hope nobody notices you. This is the flag waving American way. This is the best way to success.
Do you see this flag? This is the official, bonafide, dyed-in-the-wool, realistic thing. This is the CONFEDERATE FLAG.
What all of us morons think is dubious at best. It begs the question of the intent of any symbol of hatred. Purists will tell you that the "battle flag" was the true heart of Dixie. I will not post a picture of the "battle flag" because it reminds me of evil. An evil that began over 400 years ago aboard Portuguese and Spanish ships. An evil that is perpetuated everyday in USA because of a right that is only proved through a wrong.
What happens in this country on a daily basis lessens us as humans. The ape man must be replaced by the "true" thinking" man or we will perish.
I learn one lesson over and over again. We must choose.

Business (as usual)
Here and overseas, the entire corporate universe is shot through with
metastatic corruption and crime. It is an essential part of the business
model almost everywhere, from Wall Street offices to the pitch at
Wembley. (Pierce)
I stand in amazement.

The Fail is Strong in These Ones
So the only “experts” left standing are those who made all the approved
mistakes. It’s kind of a fraternity of failure: men and women united by a
shared history of getting everything wrong, and refusing to admit it.
Will they get the chance to add more chapters to their reign of error?

I must be a naive and ignorant person. I am not "with-it'. I learned some things long ago. They are irrelevant now.
I am told to teach these "things" now as if they are true. One of these "things" is the Constitution. I am not behind this document one hundred percent, but it does seem to be the basis for law in this land. My favorite part (other than some of the amendments) is the Preamble.
This forms the idea behind the making of the instrument. I have never been a person to take someone's word as golden unless I had some reason to back it up. The Preamble makes the Constitution readable (and possibly doable).
Here is my interpretation of this profane paragraph.
We the people in order to form a more perfect union.
We are a country of individuals who have tried to make government work as individuals, but have failed. We must work together and to this end we must do the following:
1. Establish Justice. Simple enough, fair rules punished consistently with consideration given for unique circumstances. Also, a need for an impartial settling of disputes. Also, the authority given by the people to the state to act upon behaviors which are harmful to people.
2. Insure Domestic Tranquility. Governments rule by consent and to ensure confidence they must adhere to maintaining an environment that is safe and where its citizens are free from tyranny and persecution. Safe at home, work and play.
3. Provide for the Common Defense. This is basically calling on the citizens to serve as a bulwark organized by the national government so that any invasion upon the soil of the US would be thwarted with minimal loss of life. Defense is a word that speaks volumes about the nature of violence. DEFENSE...
4. Promote the General Welfare. A government must also provide for its less fortunate in their times of need. Today, we would also include education and health care as these will promote and bolster a citizen's sense of caring for all Americans. A truly free and noble nation is one in which there is concern and care for the weakest and the poorest so that they are clothed and fed at the minimum and a place to stay is provided until such time as they can once again contribute to the greater good.
5. Secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and Our Posterity. By adhering to the above policies by providing a fair and equal footing for all citizens liberty is nourished. The enemy of liberty is uncontrolled power and unchecked authority. If the overly ambitious were left to regulate themselves without checks then liberty would soon be replaced by fear and greed and it would only be a matter of time until the Constitution itself would be worthless. No generation is allowed to mortgage the future for any reason without a means to repay their posterity.
So, in order to create this nation the individual states had to relinquish most of their sovereign power to a central authority to the national government. The states agreed that a federal system was truly a more perfect form of government than the previous one and wisely determined that the newly formed nation would require a centralized control of policy. This, my friends, was the apex of The Enlightenment.
An argument can be attempted by making a general sweeping view that The Enlightenment was a period of intellectual growth in science, politics, philosophy, music, art, literature, etc... such that for the first time the church, and to a lesser part, Royalty, was not a dominant part of a major social and intellectual movement. The people of The Enlightenment had liberated themselves from papal and royal authority and were answerable only to empirical truth in their questioning of the world around them.
Liberty was valued because of the inherent qualities of truth that freed people from the narrow minded dogmatic and despotic authority that had previously ruled their minds and bodies. The secular version of the world was born and despite the continuous assault on liberty by the modern day equivalents of the papacy (church) and aristocracy (corporations) it has endured. I stand in awe of just how extraordinary the makers of this nation were. I stand in utter contempt of the people who use fear and hatred to usurp our liberty in their hyper-ambition to consume more and more of everything as if the Earth was a giant game of monopoly and its inhabitants pawns to be used until sacrificed or destroyed just so that they may have more shiny beads than their neighbor.

Chasing Some Tail
My entire adult life has been witness to the folly of exceptionalism; the grand folly of group think. I watched us glorify embassy workers as heroes because someone fucked up and made them so.

(The CIA performed a coup to put this asshat in power.)
I watched us elect an imbecilic hater as president and glorify him because of his racist-light rhetoric and his promise to get government off out backs.
I watched as this same president let loose the dogs of war (San Salvador, Guatemala, etc...) and deny involvement with a straight face. I was sickened by our country at this point.
His predecessor was the last person you would put in charge (an ex-CIA director). He pardoned the previous transgressions and led us into a war which our country backed. Yes, America, we told Saddam he could invade Kuwait. BTW, babies were not being killed by the Iragi Guard. That was american propaganda at its very best. This was the beginning of our never ending war. He raised taxes on rich people and lost his position of power. His family has been war profiteers and war criminals since before WW2. It didn't hurt him or his family at all.
We then elected Republican-Lite (we will soon elect his wife) and got NAFTA. This killed america as an industrial nation. He gutted welfare and led us into glory in the Balkans. His VP had no spine and we got the worst president EVER!
You now live in the wake of endless war and economic brinkmanship because of these leaders. Wave your fucking flags and believe you are the exceptional people all you want, but at the end of the day you are hated just as much as the rich fucks who put you in this spot. Your pitiful hate will not save you. In fact the more you push against inevitability the faster your demise will be.
It is written somewhere that you cannot fight an idea, unless your idea is better. The american idea is not something people want and for this america will fade into the dustbin of history. There may not be a better idea, but there are a lot of ideas that believe america is not the future.
America is capitalism and its time has come and it is time it is gone.
Hording riches for its own sake is not conducive to growth in the long run unless your world depends upon quarterly reports.
